About ProPrivacyTime

Last updated: October 28, 2026

What this site is

ProPrivacyTime is an independent publication about privacy tools: VPNs, password managers, encrypted email, ad and tracker blockers, and antivirus software. It covers the category a different way from most review sites. Where a typical review starts with a test bench and a score, ours starts with a document: the logging policy, the audit's scope page, the recovery semantics in a family plan, the renewal rate buried in checkout fine print.

That choice comes from a specific problem. In this category, the gap between what a product claims and what a document actually supports is where people lose money — on a two-year prepaid plan that renews at a different rate, on a password manager that cannot recover an account, on a "no-logs" promise that turns out to cover activity logs but not connection logs. Those gaps are readable. They just have to be read.

How we make content

Every evaluation on this site is built from material the vendor publishes: policy documents, audit summaries, security whitepapers, pricing pages, help-center articles, and independent laboratory reports. We read those documents closely and explain what they mean, in plain English, including the parts that do not flatter the product.

We do not run speed tests, throughput benchmarks, or malware infection simulations, and we never describe a tool as "tested" by us when we have not run it ourselves. Where independent labs publish results, we read the labs' methodology and report what they found, including their caveats. Where a product's own documentation leaves a question open, we say the question is open.

Each guide follows the same shape: what the category actually does, the specific claims worth checking, a comparison of how vendors differ, a bottom line, and a list of red flags. The full method is on our Editorial Policy page.

Who runs it

ProPrivacyTime is an independent, self-funded publication. There is no parent company and no sales team behind it. The site is edited by a small team that works on privacy documentation as a reading discipline rather than a testing lab.

Where the money comes from

We earn affiliate commissions from some links, disclosed on every page where they appear. Commission never determines a verdict. When a product reads well but has no affiliate program, we still cover it and still say it is worth considering. When a product pays well but its documents do not support its marketing, we say so plainly — that is most of the red-flag material on this site.
